Solution:

There will be in total  28 hugs.

For person #1 we count 7 hugs with 7 friends,

for person #2 additional 6 hugs (we already counted one hug with person #1)

for person #3 additional 5 hugs, and so on.

Therefore we have 7+6+5+4+3+2+1 hugs.
